Momjan – Momiano: “Today it is the Istrian Muscatel wine kingdom of Sinkovic, Kozlovic, Kabola, and Prelac...”

In 1991 with the fall of Yugoslavia and the founding of the Republic of Croatia, the internal republic boundaries were recognised as the state boundaries and Momjan is today part of Croatia.

In 2013 Momjan became part of the European Union. You can not change the past but you can try to learn from it. The main aim of the European Union founders was to build a system that could avoid future wars and future refugees in Europe as I explain in COSMOPOLITE.

LIBERO SINKOVIC...  THE STORY OF A NOBLE MAN FROM MOMJAN - MOMIANO… IT IS A STORY OF TRADITION, HOME MADE FOOD, THE BEST MUSCATEL WINE AND FAMILY HOSPITALITY…

On 11th of March 2011, at 7 AM, I was in my car driving to Momjan. I was driving to Momiano to meet Mr. Libero Sinkovic at his SAN MAURO property located on the hilltop above Momjan.

We agreed to meet that morning at 8:30 AM and I was wondering what kind of person should be Mr. Libero Sinkovic. We’ve just exchanged several e-mails since we’ve got in virtual contact on 13th of April 2009 and although we never met in person to me the feeling was comparable to the feeling you have while making a visit to a friend.

At 8:15 AM I was approaching the 326 meters high San Mauro hilltop and it was a nice sunny morning… I knew I had other 15 minutes before the meeting we scheduled and I decided to stop and take few pictures of the countryside…

When I parked the car, the first thing I enjoyed was the silence of the morning and a nice countryside smell of the fresh air… I was on the country road towards the Church of St. Mauro built in 1860 and from there I saw for the first time the whole Momjan. I was also able to hear not far away from me the morning sound of the people starting to work and I thought maybe this was family Sinkovic waking up and preparing for the journey… I was right…

I knew from the pictures how Mr. Libero Sinkovic SAN MAURO property looked like and I noted the courtyard when I was parking my car… I also noted a young man repairing the tractor and that was the sound I heard while visiting the St. Mauro church…. I thought maybe is his son but it was one of the people that help them in the vineyards… he was kind and indicated to me where I can find Mr. Libero Sinkovic…

Usually in the countryside courtyard you find a dog and a dog house but in family Sinkovic SAN MAURO courtyard there is a special “dog” house made from an old wooden wine barrel and it is the house of Jack and Gigi … a Mexican and Vietnamese pigs… :)…

Mr. Libero Sinkovic while I was leaving his property had so nice words for Jack that I would give him a title of Honor as the Marketing Director of the family Sinkovic and SAN MAURO in Pension… and another title would be the former truffle hunter… while the younger Gigi is his first assistant…

When I entered Mr. Sinkovic’s restaurant I recognized him from the video I saw on you tube… and after our first real meeting with experienced kindness he asked me if I would liked to have something for breakfast, coffee, or anything…

I was thinking, while finding an appropriate answer, and I remembered Mr. Libero words in his second mail to me that Momian’s area was the Kingdom of Moscatel and the idea come to my mind… thus I asked to taste a glass of his Moscatel although was morning… I knew his Moscatel was appreciated by Presidents and friends of his house… and in end I was really glad for my choice.

Few years ago I tasted Degrassi’s sweet Moscatel at Vinistra and the one Mr. Libero offered to me made me think of that experience. It was a superb sweet taste, served on perfect temperature and our morning story about family Sinkovic, SAN MAURO and Istria from Smrikve was ready to start…
